Fossil initially made its reputation with traditional watches. However, smartwatches are also on the menu when it comes to this watchmaker company. At the Baselworld trade show, held in Basel, Switzerland starting March 23, the company announced two new Android Wear watches, the Q Venture and the Q Explorist. Both timepieces will launch sometime in the fall this year. Besides the touchscreen smartwatches, the company also announced a great number of other wearables. These include timepieces manufactured by Fossil and other companies from Fossil Group.
The Q Venture and the Q Explorist come to replace last year’s Q Wander and Q Founder. According to the manufacturing company, these are “the brand’s slimmest, most feature-packed touchscreen smartwatches to date”. Unfortunately, the press release doesn’t reveal too much about the upcoming timepieces. It doesn’t offer any specific details on the Q Venture or on the Q Explorist. However, it does state that the Group’s touchscreens smartwatches will all run on Android Wear 2.0, and will feature one-of-a-kind, full-AMOLED, high-resolution screens. We also know that they will sport Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processors. Both the Q Venture and the Q Explorist will allow users to choose from a great number of branded dial designs developed and programmed by Fossil Group.
Naturally, the operating system of the timepieces offers users the possibility to customize the information that appears on their watch faces. They can create shortcuts to their usual apps too. Even more, Android Wear 2.0 supports third-party apps that users can download from the Google Play Store. All these features come in good looking timepieces, that are firstly great accessories. The fact that they are extremely useful is, of course, a bonus. At the same event, Fossil Group also announced the new branded smartwatch micro-apps. As their name suggests, these apps are custom made for each brand’s smartwatches. They will work without needing to pair the timepieces with a smartphone. The micro-apps will offer unique functionalities for each smartwatch model they will be on.
The majority of the new timepieces will become available in the fall, including the Fossil Q Venture and the Q Explorist. Depending on the model and the color, these will cost somewhere between $255 and $275. Although this isn’t necessarily a small price to pay for a smartwatch, it isn’t too high either.
