The new Airwheel S5 is the newest self-balancing cruising scooter on the market and besides looking proper high-tech, it offers a number of features and benefits for commuters and strollers. Although trains, ride-sharing and bicycles are great sustainable transport options, there are certain pull factors when it comes to small cruising scooters like the Airwheel, including a higher degree of comfort. Although these kinds of scooters would not be the best choice for a commute, they are one of the greatest options when it comes to navigating the city whilst working or sight-seeing.
The Airwheel S5 comes with a revamped design that includes a longer control shaft and self-balancing dual-wheel setup. Chinese company Airwheel Technology advertises the new S5 with features like SUV characteristics, which means it can be used on all kinds of terrain, even rocky and unstable ones. The 16 inch wheels on the Airwheel are designed to keep the gadget steady and balanced, all the while manage to get across the most rough terrains one might encounter in an urban environment, and not only.
Since it’s an electric device, the Airwheel S5 is outfitted with a 680 wh battery which is said to last for a cruise of about 50 km, the equivalent of 35 miles, on a single full charge. The company designed the scooter with office, government and institutional environments in mind, which means that it is portable and foldable, so it takes up as little space possible. The company imagines the Airwheel S5 being used by law enforcement for city patrolling and even factory workers for site surveillance and such.
Although there are numerous cheap electric scooter on the market, the Airwheel S5 is one of the more expensive ones at about $3500 per unit, with an added fee if the buyer requires headlights to be installed in the designated spaces on the scooter. Although the gadget is designed for corporate use mostly, it could be an excellent city cruiser as well, for those that can afford it. It’s a green solution, but opting for a bicycle is definitely cleaner, more durable and a lot less cheaper.
