LG has had a successful year, year on end, with the LG G3, LG G4, LG G Flex and LG G Flex 2 paving the way for the company. The smartphone manufacturer is not done for the year however, as the company issued out invites for a movie-centered event to be held on October 1 in New York. Although the company hasn’t disclosed much about what is going to be launched at the event, there is one distinct possibility: the LG V10.
The LG V10 is supposedly a smartphone designed for video content creators and Youtubers in general, as a leaked image of the handset correlated with the information from the invites that were sent out suggest a powerful camera-smartphone with two separate displays. If you’re thinking YotaPhone 2 or an E-Ink display, think again. From the leaked LG V10 image we can see that there is a small rectangular secondary display, placed picture in picture, at the top left corner of the smartphone. Although the purpose of this secondary display is not yet clear, the movie-theme suggests some sort of broadcasting, streaming or editing interface.
The secondary display in the corner of the LG V10 could also be a simple display that is meant to show additional information or keep something always on top. LG is thinking of doing something entirely new with this phone and the movie-centered event where all the attendees will turn into directors for a brief time gives only a minor hint as to what we should expect. Although the LG V10 is unconfirmed and unofficial, insiders close to the matter say that the handset is ready to be launched in October, just in time for Halloween. The holiday season could also play into the functionality of the secondary screen, but at this point, we can’t say for sure.
We’re definitely looking forward to the LG event, because whatever the company launches, it has to be innovative and interesting, otherwise it has no chance in the face of the massive competition from Samsung, Apple and others. From the looks of it, the LG V10 could be that innovation, as TENAA certification documents have revealed its main features. According to the documents, the LG V10 comes with a 5.7-inch huge display with a QHD resolution and its footprint will be similar to that of the Galaxy Note 4. A fingerprint sensor is embedded in the home button on the back of the phone, with the secondary display taking up its own space up front.
A 16 MP camera will be on the back of the LG V10 and a 5 MP camera will adorn the front of the phone. Under the hood, LG will be using a Snapdragon 808 CPU, backed by 3 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage. Android 6.0 Marshmallow might be part of the feature-list, but that depends on what Google will be doing at their own event on September 29. Until we know more, we are left with the excitement of the mysterious event to come on October 1. Are you prepared?
